are you referring to the quality of oil paint used on an oil painting...or are you asking how to know the quality of the actual painting - in which case the answer is it doesn't matter! An art teacher of ours once said, 'you don't need a good reason to like something- if it says something to you, that's enough. but if you criticise it, you need to be able to give good reasons for so doing'How to know the quality of oil painting?
If you're taling about ';value';, have it appraised by any firm that can validate authenticity and value. If purchasing, it just for yourself...if you like it, and have a place for it, or a person to give it to...there's your answer. ';Quality'; is anything you like and enjoy seeing.
Do you feel something when you look at it? Does it move you - to anger, to grief, to longing or joy... any emotional response is an indication of a ';good'; painting.
